Let us play for you...

Come along on Monday May 23 to hear me and composer David John Lang play Decidous, a concert of autumnal piano music in the beautiful surrounds of heritage-listed Urrbrae House. The program includes one of our favourite piano duets, Franz Schubert's Fantasie in F minor. It's a real adventure both to listen to and to play, by turns thoughtful and bracing, sprite-like and stately.

We will also showcase David's own composition Waffles for Breakfast, a delightful and delight-filled whirl which recalls a particularly memorable morning in the Adelaide Hills. Waffles will be making its world premiere appearance in this new piano duet form, and we'd love you to hear it!

I'm also really excited to be playing some selections from the work of Hooper Brewster-Jones, a little-known Adelaide composer from the first half of the 20th century. He wrote the Bird Call Impressions, a collection of 73 short piano pieces, based on the calls and behaviours of local birdlife. As a longtime bird nerd myself, I'm fascinated by his musical interpretations of these quirky characters!

All this and more will be on the program. Places are limited and online booking is essential so we can keep track of numbers. If you'd like to come, it would be a good idea to book your tickets here as soon as possible. See you there? :)

Studio news: A new way to grow!

So this year is a little different...

It's been a wonderful Term 1, with several new students joining our community, a fun-filled House Concert for the little ones and some good musical growth across the board. But now it's time for me to take a deep breath and start planning ahead for a different kind of growth - the growth of our family.

That's right: Baby Lang is on the way! He or she has already been making their presence known in piano lessons, responding to students' playing with little bursts of kicks and wiggles. That's pretty good for someone who won't even be born until July! I wish everyone got that excited about hearing music...

Anyway. So this necessitates a bit of a different year to usual! I will be taking Term 3 off as maternity leave, but am arranging for substitute teachers to cover all lessons during that time so that students will be able to continue their learning.

Because this does involve a bit of adjustment, I have regretfully decided to close enrolments for 2022 so that new students do not have to acclimatise to multiple teaching approaches in their first months of lessons. However, our waitlist for 2023 is open and there are places available. So if you're interested in lessons for next year, make sure to let us know by applying here!

In other exciting news, I and my husband, composer David John Lang, will be presenting a joint concert of piano music in May at Urrbrae House! See the separate blog post for information and to purchase tickets. We are so looking forward to sharing some of our favourite piano solos and duets with you.

In summary, this will be a year of growth in so many ways - personal growth, musical growth, and growth in relationships. Let's continue the journey together!

...but presumably you already know that.
This blog post is the first of many more to come! This will be a place to share ideas, struggles, wins, and the events and growth of the studio. On the personal side of things, it will also provide a useful accountability motivator as I continue to grow as a teacher!
I'm looking forward to sharing this with you...
